I modified these old jeans of mine that were flare leg into skinny jeans.  I bought them years back, but stopped wearing them when I realized that skinny jeans suit my body shape much better.  Since then, I’ve felt wasteful having them sit on the shelf.  So when a friend asked me to show them how to turn these into skinnies I picked up the task.

Materials: The only extra thing needed is jean thread, find one that matches your current jean thread at your fabric store.

Time: Between 30 minutes to 1 hour, due to all sorts of adjustments and seam ripping.

Tips: Always try on the pants before you make any moves that cut the fabric, these are the points of no return!  Use a long stitch length for anything you’re not sure about so it’s easy to rip out if it’s wrong.  When you’re moving on to the hemming part, pin the leg cuff to the base of the leg, right sides together.  The cuff is flipped so the right side faces inward, the pants are flipped so that the right side faces outward.  Then slide the cuff onto the pant leg and line up the rough edges.

Wear it with: All your big baggy tops to contrast the thinner leg, and take this opportunity to happily tuck your new jeans into boots, legwarmers, and big yarny socks.

The moment I sliced off the excess jean fabric I kind of freaked out inside “it’s gone! Can’t undo it!”.  I thought of this verse that also has to do with chopping, but in a way that shows how scary hell is.  In media and arts, hell has become almost comical and it’s not a big deal.  This verse, however, tells me that hell is worse than having all my limbs chopped off.  It’s frightening =( but thank God, Jesus came to provide a way out for me.
